VALVE DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

8.1 Valves shall comply with the relevant standards and codes as specified herein and in the valve data sheets.

2 Ball Valves
All ball valves shall be of a fire tested design to BS6755 Pt 2, API 6FA or API 607,certified accordingly and fitted with fire safe seals.
Valves shall be of anti-static design with blow out proof stems.
The design of all ball valves shall incorporate body cavity pressure relief, which shall be achieved through seat design. A hole drilled in the ball to achieve body cavity relief is not acceptable.
Ball valves shall be reduced bore pattern, unless otherwise specified full bore on the individual data sheets. Reduced bores shall be limited to one line size smaller than body size.

1.Carbon Steel and Impact Tested Carbon Steel

The chemical composition of carbon steel castings and forgings shall be limited as follows:

Carbon content 0.22% max

Carbon equivalent 0.43% max by ladle analysis where :

CEV = C + Mn/6 + (Cr+Mo+V)/5 +(Cu + Ni)/15

NACE MR0175 specified material shall also have limitations on chemical composition as follows :

Flow direction of globe valve, down-to-up or up-to-down, Stem diameter?

Generally speaking, the flow of globe vales is from down to up. It means the medium will go through from disc downside then out by upside. Globe valves usually adopt compulsory sealed design, so close valve by offer pressure to disc against seat. So if you want to open valve, the globe valve disc must overcome resistance made by stem and packing friction, medium pressure will offer adverse pressure which help open valve. It means you can use less force than closing valve. So the stem diameter should be larger, to avoid stem bending fault.(depends on metal material physical performance of stem ). In recent years, there are more and more valve pressure seal, the medium through upper disc to down disc, so the close valve force is smaller than the open valve force, valve shaft diameter are allowed to be smaller.

Marathon Petroleum to Purchase BP’s Texas City Refinery – Valves

Marathon Petroleum Corp. (MPC) today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase BP’s 451,000 barrel per calendar day (475,000 barrel per stream day) Texas City refinery, three intrastate NGL pipelines originating at the refinery, an allocation of BP’s Colonial Pipeline Company shipper history, four terminals, retail marketing contract assignments for approximately 1,200 branded sites and a 1,040 megawatt cogeneration (cogen) facility. The base purchase price is $598 million, plus inventories estimated at $1.2 billion. The agreement also contains an earnout provision under which MPC could pay up to an additional $700 million over six years, subject to certain conditions. About Gate Valve
